Dick Thurmond, President of William E. Wood and Associates shares his thoughts on 2011 at our annual Awards Breakfast:
“Honoring the Everyday Hero”
Last year, William E. Wood and associates continued to be the industry leader in the Hampton Roads real estate market, including Williamsburg and North Eastern North Carolina. Our closed sales volume in 2011 exceeded 1.2 billion dollars – over 200 million higher than our nearest competitor. Pretty impressive statistics in any market!
Despite the challenges of 2011, many people in our family of companies had one of the best years of their careers. And while others in our industry were throwing up their hands in despair, you all dug in, stayed the course, and kept providing the best possible advise and service to our clients. That attitude has made our professionals heroes in the truest sense of the word – people who give their best no matter what the challenge!
Last year wasn’t all about real estate, however. We also supported the community through donations to the Food Bank, “shred it” events, blood drives, and contributions made through the William E. Wood Foundation. Our 25th Annual Charity Golf Tournament was a resounding success and our Farm House Fun Run was praised by veteran runners as one of the best “first efforts” they had seen.
We also marked the passing of one of our founders of William E. Wood and Associates – Anne Devaney Wood. It was Anne and Bill’s vision that gave us the deep roots we continue to thrive on. I personally relied on Anne’s sage advise and sound business sense – and miss her genteel Southern ways. We were all blessed to have had an opportunity to know her, work with her, and be friends with her.
I thank each of you for your commitment and hard work in 2011. William E. Wood and Associates and its family of companies, Towne Mortgage and Heritage Title, continue to be recognized nationally for providing the best in real estate services to our clients. Of course – when you have the best people – agents, managers, loan officers, loan closers, and staff – such accolades just come naturally!
As we move into our fourth decade as a real estate corporation, I am more excited than ever about the opportunities that are presenting themselves in our industry…opportunities to learn, grow, and serve. We have come a long way since the company’s inception in February of 1972…and we have even further we can go. The opportunities for success are limitless…especially for YOU…the Best in the Business!
Dick Thurmond, President
